06:59:40 Testbaudson: tap tap tap...is this thing on?
06:59:49 Testbaudson: welcome to this weeks' IRC meeting
06:59:57 Testbaudson: let's start with the roll call
07:00:01 Testbaudson: who's here?
07:00:03 Testbaudson: Christophj
07:00:04 mandsch: Michael
07:00:36 astroidex: hello
07:00:45 astroidex: astroidex is here
07:00:47 Testbaudson: how about darndt, nimix, ur?
07:01:06 nimix: nimix is here too
07:01:46 Testbaudson: ok, let's start...
07:02:04 Testbaudson: the agenda is here: http://www.mapbender.org/IRC_Meeting#Meeting_Agenda
07:02:05 sigq: Title: IRC Meeting - MapbenderWiki ( at www.mapbender.org )
07:02:31 Testbaudson: ( 1 ) Treefolder redesign
07:02:40 Testbaudson: there is a link to http://trac.osgeo.org/mapbender/ticket/354
07:02:42 sigq: Title: #354 ( freely configurable tree structure to use with treefolder2 ) - Mapbender - Trac ( at trac.osgeo.org )
07:02:48 Testbaudson: mandsch and I were talking about this
07:03:00 Testbaudson: but I have forgotten everything about it :- )
07:03:03 mandsch: :- )
07:03:26 Testbaudson: mandsch, do you know the status?
07:03:39 mandsch: yes, more or less
07:03:51 mandsch: status is: currently in 2.6
07:04:05 mandsch: we are able to create a new customized tree structure
07:04:21 mandsch: with a fancy dra'n'drop admin interface
07:04:35 mandsch: that let's you create tree node
07:04:41 mandsch: hierarichally
07:04:54 mandsch: and then you cann add wms-services at each node
07:05:17 mandsch: in the gui, you'll have all the benefits of treegde2
07:05:39 mandsch: plus the defined tree structure
07:05:49 astroidex: and what about wmc ; ) mr sch. will ask
07:05:53 mandsch: that's the status.
07:06:07 mandsch: at fossgis there was an issue about wmc, right astroidex
07:06:31 mandsch: when saving a wmc, the tree structure cannot be conserved ( at the moment )
07:06:56 mandsch: the same, when loading a wmc in a gui, the tree structure cannot be created
07:07:11 mandsch: but, merging of wmc document in the tree structure is possible.
07:07:35 mandsch: i am not sure if this is a big problem ...
07:08:07 astroidex: ok
07:08:20 mandsch: Testbaudson: coudl this be handled by wmc?
07:08:35 mandsch: ie loading and saving?
07:08:40 Testbaudson: we should keep it in mind, but it's not a blocker for me
07:08:52 mandsch: ok, i think so too.
07:09:14 mandsch: one drawback wrt the old customized trees structure
07:09:28 mandsch: is that we can only use services and not layers ...
07:09:50 mandsch: but actually i think doinf this on a layer basis is the admin overkill.
07:09:50 nimix: was the old structure stored in wmc?
07:10:05 mandsch: no, the strcutrue is stored in the same db table
07:10:19 mandsch: I think you might even use both modules ..
07:10:30 mandsch: at the same time - but not for the same gui
07:11:01 Testbaudson: did the old module allow layer-based nesting?
07:11:24 : * Testbaudson isn't sure
07:11:35 mandsch: hmm... it didnt allow "add all layers from this wms" i think
07:11:59 mandsch: you basically had to add a ll the layers you wanted
07:12:13 Testbaudson: ok
07:12:14 mandsch: but you had the freedom, e.g. to give them new titles
07:12:42 mandsch: when first talking to arnulf about this tree
07:13:00 mandsch: we also thought about adding a default structure "my services" or the like
07:13:13 mandsch: for all wms that are added at run-time
07:13:18 mandsch: via addWMS
07:13:33 ur: but someone want to move them up and down
07:13:41 ur: that could be a problem?
07:13:47 mandsch: true
07:14:11 mandsch: i think, this can be solved via wms prreferences
07:14:28 mandsch: if you create a tree structure, for better accessability
07:14:39 mandsch: you don't want the structure to be altered, i think
07:14:43 nimix: as far as I can remember you can move the wms services but you don't see the actual order
07:14:55 mandsch: but you can change the order of the wms to change the stacking in the map
07:15:05 mandsch: nimix: exactly
07:15:32 mandsch: so wms preferences will show the correct stacking order
07:15:50 ur: how do you identify the service which you want to move?
07:15:50 mandsch: and can be changed from there
07:16:06 mandsch: ok, you got me ;- )
07:16:20 mandsch: you'll have to know the name oe title ...
07:16:34 ur: ok
07:17:18 mandsch: i think this treefolder is still open for improvement ideas
07:17:40 ur: yes
07:17:47 mandsch: i thought that we could also use keywords for automatic sorting of wms to the structure... ?
07:18:15 : * ur hm...
07:18:37 mandsch: i know we can have several keywords and so on... j
07:18:37 ur: maybe
07:19:04 mandsch: but we have identified a certain subset in the metadata tables, haven't we?
07:19:12 mandsch: categories ...
07:20:19 ur: right
07:21:08 ur: you want to take the categories to build the structure?
07:21:25 mandsch: it could be a way to do it ...
07:21:48 mandsch: but this is just a stupid idea ...
07:22:03 mandsch: i have no real plan to do that...
07:22:03 ur: the categories are service-specific
07:22:13 ur: not gui-specific ...
07:24:32 : * ur has no real plan too
07:24:57 Testbaudson: so what should be the core features of the new treefolder?
07:24:58 mandsch: true. but were there reuqests for additional features in the fossgis poll, eg?
07:25:37 mandsch: well, i think, the features at the moment are ok, let aside the wmc stuff ... this may need some thinking...
07:27:10 ur: +1
07:27:18 Testbaudson: next steps?
07:27:52 mandsch: waiting for bug reports from 2.6 rc1?
07:28:37 mandsch: I am already using this, Freiburg wants to use that, I#m sure we'll get some feedback.
07:28:44 Testbaudson: ok
07:28:48 astroidex: cool
07:28:55 Testbaudson: shall we move on to topic 2
07:28:56 Testbaudson: ?
07:29:00 astroidex: +1
07:29:04 ur: ok
07:29:08 mandsch: ok
07:29:15 Testbaudson: ( 2 ) Sponsoring by FOSSGIS e.V.
07:29:17 Testbaudson: astroidex?
07:29:25 astroidex: ok
07:29:37 astroidex: I have been at the FOSSGIS vereins-meeting
07:29:41 ur: they want to give us € 10.000 true?
07:29:59 astroidex: they have money and plan to sponsor
07:30:15 astroidex: osgeo projects mit 10000€ per year
07:30:25 astroidex: not each but all together
07:30:37 astroidex: so we could apply for some sponsoring
07:30:56 astroidex: for dev meetings, train tickets, poster and so on
07:31:19 astroidex: I would apply for some money for the bolsena meeting
07:31:47 astroidex: it is an information that we should keep in mind
07:31:54 mandsch: would each person have to apply?
07:32:23 astroidex: no - I would apply for the project. Like ask for some hundred € and then we can spend it like we want
07:32:59 mandsch: ok.
07:33:02 mandsch: cool.
07:33:03 astroidex: or we can give the receipts for the posters
07:33:30 astroidex: this is quite a new decission and I am new i the verein
07:33:40 astroidex: but maybe we can ask marco about it
07:33:59 astroidex: this will make meetings easier to organize and
07:34:14 astroidex: maybe we can meet next time in the linuxhotel
07:34:25 astroidex: this it is. any questions
07:34:48 Testbaudson: thanks for this
07:34:51 Testbaudson: sounds promising
07:34:52 ur: the linux hotel is a great idea
07:35:12 astroidex: and it is nice athmosphere an dnot expensive
07:35:30 astroidex: so next +1
07:35:50 Testbaudson: ( 3 ) Bolsena_2009
07:36:10 astroidex: maybe not much to say.
07:36:14 astroidex: we will go there
07:36:27 astroidex: David too
07:36:32 astroidex: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Hacking_Event_200
07:36:33 sigq: Title: OSGeo Hacking Event 200 - OSGeo Wiki ( at wiki.osgeo.org )
07:37:06 astroidex: mandsch - what about you
07:37:18 mandsch: I'd like to ...
07:37:29 mandsch: not sure...
07:37:48 astroidex: maybe we discuss in smaler group an more actual what we will do there. But it
07:37:49 mandsch: the whole week?
07:38:14 astroidex: will be usefull to contact some of the other developers in advance
07:38:26 astroidex: mandsch yes - whole week.
07:38:37 astroidex: but you could come for some days too
07:38:45 astroidex: it will be soooo good
07:39:06 ur: astroidex: it's possible to get a room for a few days?
07:39:08 ur: sure?
07:39:27 Testbaudson: I guess it can be arranged if rooms are free
07:39:28 mandsch: otherwise i'll take the tent... :- )(
07:39:37 Testbaudson: however, you can book a normal hotel room
07:39:42 astroidex: I am not sure
07:39:43 Testbaudson: :- ) or use the tent
07:40:35 Testbaudson: mandsch: interested?
07:40:55 mandsch: sure, but I don't know yet.
07:41:06 Testbaudson: please keep us updated
07:41:13 Testbaudson: it would be great if you koined us
07:41:15 mandsch: absolutely.
07:41:17 Testbaudson: joined
07:41:19 astroidex: would be fun
07:42:04 Testbaudson: next?
07:42:06 Testbaudson: ( 4 ) Blogging on osgeo
07:42:09 astroidex: ok
07:42:14 astroidex: just a notice
07:42:33 astroidex: I noticed that you have a blog when you are osgeo member
07:42:56 astroidex: so when you login http://www.osgeo.org/
07:42:59 sigq: Title: OSGeo.org | Your Open Source Compass ( at www.osgeo.org )
07:43:11 mandsch: You mean Astrids' Blog q osgeo?
07:43:11 astroidex: you have a blog and you could post Mapbender news
07:43:29 astroidex: I just mention this as we had this blog discussion some weeks ago
07:43:38 astroidex: yes
07:44:04 Testbaudson: so we could add a user "mapbender" for official announcements?
07:44:13 astroidex: ah - good idea
07:44:27 astroidex: this would be an easy way to get a mapbender blog
07:44:43 astroidex: or we post as persons
07:45:14 Testbaudson: I think it would be cool to have an "official blog"
07:45:23 Testbaudson: for announces
07:45:29 astroidex: yes you are right
07:45:42 Testbaudson: individual blogging is cool for demos or new features
07:45:45 astroidex: else we all would have to apply to be added to osgeo planet
07:46:52 astroidex: testbaudson - could you create a mapbender user on osgeo then?
07:47:33 Testbaudson: yes...I'll add my mail address if there are no objections
07:48:05 astroidex: no problem. and maybe you send the terms offlist so we can login too.
07:49:08 Testbaudson: any other topics?
07:49:16 astroidex: GSOC?
07:50:34 astroidex: Testbaudson do you have news from Verenas room maid
07:50:40 Testbaudson: lil
07:50:42 Testbaudson: lol
07:51:02 mandsch: I can only report, that a potential candidate i mentioned is not available for GSOC ( topic would have been wms time component ).
07:51:10 Testbaudson: she will do some clean-up in the code
07:51:51 Testbaudson: astroidex: he will write a proposal this week
07:51:59 astroidex: cool
07:52:01 Testbaudson: his name is Karim
07:52:12 astroidex: ah - good I forgot it
07:52:16 Testbaudson: and he's Verena's room mate
07:52:35 astroidex: ok - sorry for my english
07:54:11 astroidex: so this is for today?
07:54:22 Testbaudson: I've created the user "mapbender"
07:54:25 Testbaudson: password is
07:54:32 Testbaudson: -= THIS MESSAGE NOT LOGGED =-
07:55:10 Testbaudson: I'll add that data to the WhereGroup wiki
07:55:30 astroidex: good . and we should add the user to sogeo planet
07:55:34 Testbaudson: I'll have that blog registered with Planet OSGeo
07:56:03 : * Testbaudson motions to close the meeting
07:56:23 astroidex: +1
07:56:29 mandsch: +1
07:56:34 ur: +1
07:57:01 Testbaudson: thanks and bye!
