09:39:35 epictetus: accidental cutpaste
09:39:36 epictetus: sorry
09:45:19 crschmidt: epictetus: what is it that you think is an awesome project?
09:46:12 epictetus: OSgeo
09:46:55 crschmidt: OSGeo is a foundation with a collection of projects under its wings: do you have any specific interest in one of them?
09:47:58 epictetus: Nah just the whole idea -- I've worked with a lot of town government stuff, land planning, and town IT in Massachusetts and they always have these totally closed GIS systems
09:48:17 epictetus: some with public interfaces that give some limited functionality
09:48:41 : * crschmidt would point out that MassGIS uses GeoServer for almost all of its 'real work' behind the scenese
09:48:50 crschmidt: serving up web services ( WMS + WFS )
09:48:59 crschmidt: and of course, the data is all available as well, which is handy
09:49:07 epictetus: really?
09:49:11 crschmidt: ( Lets things like http://boston.freemap.in/ exist )
09:49:11 epictetus: that's really cool
09:50:50 epictetus: must have changed since i was involved then

09:51:09 crschmidt: how long since yo uwere involved?
09:51:31 epictetus: maybe 7 years ago??
09:51:39 crschmidt: Gotcha. Almost definitely changed since then, yes : )
09:52:05 crschmidt: 7 years ago, I don't think GeoServer even existed...
09:52:15 crschmidt: looks like it reached 1.0 in 2003, in any case
