12:00:24 fsc7: Does anyone knows when the workshops and presentations will be available?
12:00:44 fsc7: Talking about Foss4g
12:01:11 fsc7: I was looking for geonetwork workshop
12:01:38 crschmidt: fsc7: they're having some technical problems.
12:02:13 crschmidt: fsc7: http://svn.opengeo.org/foss4g2008/geoserver-data/trunk/workshop/docs/
12:02:14 sigq: Title: Revision 205: /geoserver-data/trunk/workshop/docs ( at svn.opengeo.org )
12:03:12 fsc7: Many thanks crschmidt
12:03:28 crschmidt: ( note that I have no idea if the OpenGeo people are actively working on those docs )
12:04:04 fsc7: It's just for reference.
12:04:24 fsc7: hey
12:04:40 fsc7: Talking about Geonetwork
12:04:44 crschmidt: oh
12:04:48 crschmidt: geonetwork
12:04:48 fsc7: thanks anyway.
12:04:49 crschmidt: not geoserver
12:04:50 crschmidt: sorry :(
12:04:56 : * crschmidt is... out of it
12:05:04 crschmidt: flying to Tokyo is not working so well with my body clock.
12:05:34 fsc7: I see...
12:10:01 darkblue_B: hey crschmidt - feeling japanese yet ;-P
12:11:00 crschmidt: Nope
12:11:04 crschmidt: Feeling tired : )
12:12:27 darkblue_B: hey - you know why the bicycle couldnt stand up ....
12:12:42 crschmidt: Because it didn't have a kickstand?
12:12:56 darkblue_B: because it was two tired
12:13:03 crschmidt: ba dum tish
12:16:55 wildintellect: darkblue_B, did you put some info up about the OSBootcamp?
12:17:02 darkblue_B: yes
12:18:15 wildintellect: I see it on the list on the california page, should we link that to something?
12:20:05 darkblue_B: well.. the OSBootCamp I think needs some help
12:20:18 darkblue_B: when I said to people where i was going, they said "Which OS?"
12:20:20 darkblue_B: !!
12:20:42 darkblue_B: I told the nice registration person.. you should call it OSSBootCamp
12:20:47 darkblue_B: she said... ohhhh
12:20:50 darkblue_B: :- )
12:20:53 wildintellect: lol
12:21:03 wildintellect: I tend to stick with FOSS
12:21:03 darkblue_B: It was a good turnout by the Free BSD people
12:21:12 darkblue_B: yeah FOSS
12:21:21 darkblue_B: but I think there weren't enough students there
12:21:29 darkblue_B: its hard to get their attention
12:21:44 wildintellect: hmm, maybe we should try to get one done up here at Davis
12:21:56 wildintellect: I have the ear of the computer science club these days
12:21:59 darkblue_B: That would be great
12:22:16 darkblue_B: yeah the CSUA, undergrad CS students were involved
12:22:20 darkblue_B: they were great
12:22:28 darkblue_B: they knew most all the topics of course
12:22:37 wildintellect: I'll bring it up and the next local LUG meeting
12:23:28 darkblue_B: also, there was at least one person who had trouble with the little red devil horns
12:23:36 darkblue_B: the marketing guy said to me
12:24:05 darkblue_B: "I tell people rght off - we are powered by Satan, is that a problem for you ?"
12:24:11 wildintellect: let's just say FOSS has a way to grow up in terms of marketing
12:24:19 darkblue_B: then I can tell who they are
12:24:34 darkblue_B: .. it was said as if it was a joke, you know, bar lying / humor
12:24:48 darkblue_B: but I dont drink, and I like my christian neighbors
12:25:03 darkblue_B: I think they have a branding challenge
12:25:15 wildintellect: I have to say the christian version of ubuntu is kinda interesting
12:25:37 wildintellect: basically a standard ubuntu with a digital bible installed
12:26:11 darkblue_B: sure - I did genealogy in the 90s.. I found out how productve the folks from Utah are as programmers
12:26:30 wildintellect: and low power christian radio is actually doing wonders for FOSS radion production tools
12:26:31 darkblue_B: its not my thing, bible study, but I support them in my own way
12:27:16 wildintellect: its hard to work with - sometimes their faith interferes with project goals oddly
12:27:38 wildintellect: mostly a lack of interest in sharing their work outside their direct community
12:27:54 wildintellect: at least in the one example I've seen
15:44:48 wildintellect: TylerM, what's the word on the AAG?
16:37:32 TylerM: wildintellect: what are you wondering about?
16:37:43 wildintellect: if you're coming
16:38:09 wildintellect: I'm trying to herd all the speakers...
16:38:36 TylerM: nope
16:38:36 TylerM: i'm out
16:39:21 TylerM: wife having surgery within the next 3-5 months.. so I'll be staying home until at least march
16:39:40 TylerM: or at least until we got a solid date
16:39:49 wildintellect: understandable
16:40:07 wildintellect: any ideas on who else I could try to get in your sted
16:40:08 TylerM: how's it looking from your end?
16:40:50 wildintellect: it's hard since people say they're going to give a talk and then don't submit the abstract
16:41:04 wildintellect: I think I know for sure 5 speakers
16:41:16 wildintellect: haven't even had a chance to work on funding for the booth yet
16:42:01 TylerM: unless you're looking for an 'official' person, i think you've got some great reps already
16:46:55 wildintellect: 'official' would be good - I'm leaning towards 1 full session and 2nd panel session
16:47:14 wildintellect: since a few people have there talks elsewhere and can't move them now
16:47:35 wildintellect: and we want a good discussion to let people ask all sorts of questions
16:48:42 TylerM: sounds good
16:58:18 wildintellect: I still need to email the other lists about submitting
17:04:57 : * crschmidt is at FOSS4G Tokyo 2008
17:05:57 darkblue_B: domo arragato kudusai

17:15:55 crschmidt: Jeff explaining that DM Solutions is responsible for him being here ( indirectly ) by getting him into the open geo space
17:16:10 crschmidt: going to talk about current community, foss4g community, etc.
17:16:48 darkblue_B: oh - you are on in a few minutes
17:17:11 darkblue_B: OpenLayers.. have you seen localized projects?
17:18:08 crschmidt: Yes, and we have full support for translation of strings in the project
17:18:12 crschmidt: ( no Japanese translation yet )
17:18:19 darkblue_B: nice - should be a hit
17:18:34 darkblue_B: maybe you will get some translators then
17:18:58 darkblue_B: ask if they use Unicode, or still the older encodings
17:19:07 darkblue_B: ( if you care )
17:19:15 crschmidt: Jeff says that he is nothing without community
17:19:19 crschmidt: unemployed, no one to drink with
17:19:34 crschmidt: always busy, able to travel, part o a network, recognized as a key member of the community
17:19:38 crschmidt: ( And presumably able to drink )
17:21:47 crschmidt: In the beginning, no global organization
17:21:51 crschmidt: many projects immature
17:27:32 crschmidt: talking about how the community is growing
17:27:38 crschmidt: foundation osgeo, foss4g conference
17:31:50 crschmidt: Talking about Sol Katz Award
17:31:55 crschmidt: Growth of Local communities
17:32:45 : * crschmidt wonders why there is no successful US Local Chapter
17:33:34 darkblue_B: everything is handed to us on a platter here in the US
17:33:38 darkblue_B: no "pain"
17:34:10 crschmidt: "Is the community easy to work with: No"
17:35:15 crschmidt: lots of challenges for the community
17:37:21 crschmidt: Needs "you"
17:38:37 darkblue_B: the Japanese have the 2nd largest economy in the world.. maybe someone there can get past the avoidance of monetization and get some useful and appropriate money to change hands
17:39:15 darkblue_B: .. they are infinitely clever with goods and service exchange
17:52:47 darkblue_B: hmm maybe he's talking now
18:24:04 : * crschmidt was, yes
18:27:02 darkblue_B: great - time to go to sleep!
18:27:13 darkblue_B: oh wait, its ... lunchtime
18:27:15 crschmidt: now i need to prepare for my workshop this afternoon : )
18:27:17 darkblue_B: dang
18:27:30 darkblue_B: yep - thats hard
18:27:33 darkblue_B: good luck
18:28:16 darkblue_B: well I just found out that my friend in Vermont got Lyme disease.. and has been in bed for 6 weeks, so things coud definitely be worse
18:29:12 crschmidt: ouch
18:29:21 darkblue_B: yeah - ouch
