06:03:01 epifanio: hi all
06:03:59 epifanio: i'm preparing a gis-live cd installable based on ubuntu 9.04 , i know in osgeo there is already a similar project in act
06:04:13 epifanio: have you a link to a doc or wiki page about it ?
06:05:31 jsanz: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Live_GIS_Disc
06:05:33 sigq: Title: Live GIS Disc - OSGeo Wiki ( at wiki.osgeo.org )
06:06:14 epifanio: cool alreadi iwase here : http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G2008_BOF_Sessions thanks for the update notice :- )
06:06:15 sigq: Title: FOSS4G2008 BOF Sessions - OSGeo Wiki ( at wiki.osgeo.org )
06:06:47 jsanz: and you should take a look at osgeo live demo mailing list http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/live-demo
06:06:48 sigq: Title: Live-demo Info Page ( at lists.osgeo.org )
06:27:56 epifanio: jsanz: thanks that's what i need, actually i'm using remastersys as instrument to make a customized.iso i'll submit to the list a link to the .iso ( i already done it )
06:28:33 epifanio: reading the wiki .. and subscribe to the list to be up-to date on these topic
06:29:08 jsanz: epifanio, cool. I think it would be great if you document a little bit ( or link other place ) your work on that page
06:30:09 epifanio: yes of course, i'm preparing it for the gfoss.it ( italian chapter ) right now i'm writng a list of the included packages and sw
06:30:39 jsanz: great, that's exactly what i was thinking on : )
06:30:44 epifanio: however i used svn for the mayot project like gdal, grass ossim and qgis
06:31:47 epifanio: i avoid repository .. some times are not up to date .. using svn and "installable live" ... we just run svn up in the source to have it up to date
06:31:57 epifanio: i'll include the configure files too
10:23:59 sigq: osgeofeed: Changeset [1470]: starting cleanup <http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/changeset/1470>

11:34:15 tschaub: FrankW: ( or other ) could you suggest the appropriate venue ( mailing list I assume ) for making a request that OSGeo establish a process for new, pre-incubation projects to assign copyright?
11:35:08 TylerM: hi tschaub - the incubator list would be good, but if you want more general discussion/support for the idea you might want to bring it up on the discuss list instead.. depends
11:35:34 tschaub: thanks TylerM
11:35:47 tschaub: there has been some discussion ( I think on discuss )
11:35:47 TylerM: any one.. hope you're well
11:36:09 tschaub: concluding in different suggestions
12:20:05 yjacolin: hi TylerM
12:21:49 TylerM: catch you on IM
13:29:30 markusN: Updated WinGRASS 6.4.0-RC3 release installer now available: http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/grass-dev/2009-April/043277.html

20:26:29 darkblue_B: TylerM: ping
20:26:50 TylerM: hi darkblue_B - wuzzup?
20:27:27 darkblue_B: hiya
20:27:27 : * TylerM wonders if any dxers are lurking here...
20:27:31 TylerM: hi!
20:27:36 darkblue_B: dxers?
20:28:07 darkblue_B: well, back from the CalGIS pre-conference meetup
20:28:17 TylerM: ahh how'd it go?
20:28:25 darkblue_B: http://www.cgia.org
20:28:38 darkblue_B: meeting, then the Cl GIS Council.. which is Formal
20:28:45 darkblue_B: Cal GIS Council
20:28:50 sigq: Title: Welcome to CGIA - the California Geographic Information Association ( at www.cgia.org )
20:28:50 darkblue_B: we hve a new State GIO
20:29:16 darkblue_B: so, CGIA is mostly local govt Geo officers I think
20:29:22 darkblue_B: and they are definitely limping along
20:29:37 darkblue_B: now that the budget famine is starting to his
20:29:39 darkblue_B: hit
20:29:55 darkblue_B: butI got out a great statement on OSS, at the appropriate time
20:30:08 darkblue_B: with the ESRI guy staring me down while I did it :D
20:30:42 darkblue_B: I dont want to over dramatize, but I really think he was.. there were two in the room
20:31:23 TylerM: maybe air was too thick? ; )
20:31:28 darkblue_B: the secratary of the meeting came over to me after and asked if I could send her something for the notes
20:31:32 darkblue_B: naw, I handled it
20:31:39 darkblue_B: I wrote my statement on the train on the way there
20:32:06 darkblue_B: it emphasizes interop, and specifically said larger, work together, not replace
20:32:14 TylerM: niice
20:32:35 darkblue_B: so it was just me.. but now that they asked for a follow up, I thought to runit by you and whomever
20:33:11 TylerM: would love to see it
20:33:20 darkblue_B: ok, I'll send you an email
20:33:34 darkblue_B: btw, the GIO of California likes us I think ;- )
20:33:53 TylerM: heh
20:34:20 darkblue_B: his small army has failed to materialize though, they only authorized him ! no minions, eg no staff
20:34:51 darkblue_B: he was the former chair of the Cal GIS Council, apparently, as he knew every one of about 30 people in the room by first name already
20:35:11 darkblue_B: 2 dozen state and fed agency representatives
20:35:16 darkblue_B: almost like real govt
20:36:43 darkblue_B: also Bruce Joffe gave an update on the famous court case
20:36:57 darkblue_B: on California Public Records access to all county parcel data
20:37:05 TylerM: interesting
20:37:12 TylerM: have to run.. back in a bit
20:37:22 darkblue_B: np
20:37:25 TylerM: oh by dxers.. I meant ham radio guys : )
20:37:31 TylerM: I have a receiver
20:37:59 TylerM: just heard from a few guys in cali a minute ago
20:38:05 TylerM: biab
20:38:05 darkblue_B: aha
20:40:11 darkblue_B: bottom line on the court case is - all records are public access, Homeland Secrity PCII status is not an argument, copyright is not an argument.. and they lost the appeal by a 3 judge unanimous opinion.. deadline to petition the CA Supreme Court is Wednesday.. its been 29 months
20:41:33 darkblue_B: all records produced by a public contract must be accessible via a Public Records request.. however copyright still applies.. so if its copyright Digital Globe then its still copyright Digital Globe for example...
20:42:14 darkblue_B: in some cases you may have the right to request documents, but you may not be able to use them for commerce.. personal inspection.. but basically, its Sunshine Prevails
20:43:27 darkblue_B: Another big topic is Digital Coast program.. ( not the exact name )
20:44:06 darkblue_B: NOAA and Army Corp of Engineers.. but the Army has the mission to do the LIDAR of the COAST.. notice not watersheds
20:44:38 darkblue_B: other agencies seeking interop.. huge tangle just trying to get agencies to coordinate
20:44:49 darkblue_B: on a date to do flyovers, for example
20:45:13 darkblue_B: but take home is, the coasts are being mapped very carefully by at least three agencies...
20:47:42 darkblue_B: oh yeah.. Bruce Joffe wants to be in touch.. http://www.opendataconsortium.org
20:47:58 darkblue_B: he's a neighbor here in the Cal Bay Area
20:48:29 darkblue_B: His work on a data policy has a good chance of being the candidate adopted by the Cal GIO
20:48:57 sigq: Title: Com.org - Only the best links ... ( at www.opendataconsortium.org )
20:53:04 darkblue_B: Oh yeah.. I asked about Earth Observation and GEOSS interop, and it was a pretty flat no :-/
20:54:07 darkblue_B: Please note there is no classified data here :- )
21:05:08 wildint: fyi, darkblue_B the new state GIO is friends with my advisor at Davis and open to ideas on appropriate tech, may have even been one of his students
21:06:10 wildint: darkblue_B, are you in sac or heading back tomorrow, I could pass you some osgeo materials to take along
21:06:53 darkblue_B: wildint: nope.. I opted for the path of least resistance
21:07:03 darkblue_B: there and back again.. I'm done :- )
21:07:11 wildint: ah ok
21:07:45 darkblue_B: the new GIO apparently knows just about everyone !
21:08:00 wildint: yes he's worked for most of the agencies
21:08:11 wildint: comes in does some cool project moves to the next agency
21:08:25 darkblue_B: some people have all the moves
21:08:53 wildint: I say him give a talk on tele-health and how it was a way to strong arm the bells/cable people into getting high speed service to everyone
21:09:09 darkblue_B: it was good.. overall I think it went quite well for OSGeo
21:09:13 wildint: and getting a coverage map so the state would know
21:09:34 darkblue_B: dang
21:11:20 wildint: we can strategize more later, and if we ever have a good reason for a meeting I'm pretty sure it can be arranged
23:41:32 mindspit: good morning
