05:23:49 simeon: anyone know what datum uses a polar radius of 6356752.5?
07:53:26 TylerM: yjacolin: I just posted an email to journal list re: latex usage.. I'd appreciate knowing if you agree with my comment that latex makes translations easier : )
07:56:47 yjacolin: hello Tyle, easier between latex and which other way?
07:56:56 TylerM: scribus : )
07:57:22 yjacolin: yes definitively : )
07:57:56 yjacolin: except if you find a way to split the contents into several files, each chapters in one file
07:58:13 yjacolin: I suppose it is possible, but not a scribus guru ; )
07:58:31 yjacolin: Latex tag afraid sone people
07:58:32 TylerM: Landon was wondering if latex is a barrier to participation/production.. then we could move to another platform. But I can't think of one that is as efficient.
07:58:45 yjacolin: I agree with you
07:59:10 TylerM: Last time I checked on scribus you still couldn't not 'link' in external files. You could import them, but not dynamically if the files change.
07:59:11 yjacolin: this is a barrier but we need to find something as good as latex tag
07:59:28 TylerM: okay, thanks, good to know
07:59:45 TylerM: ping epifanio - do you think you'll have any time to help with latex ideas?
08:00:13 TylerM: yjacolin: I discovered a new latex package "wallpaper" - are you familiar with it?
08:00:38 yjacolin: I don't know it
08:00:45 yjacolin: I just received your email : )
08:00:45 TylerM: see "\ThisCenterWallPaper" in http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/journal/volume_5/en-us/OSGeoJournal_vol5.tex
08:00:59 TylerM: just put in a graphic and it takes full page.. beautiful in current PDF : )
08:01:08 yjacolin: I wil check later, need to go ; )
08:01:20 yjacolin: ok fine, give one hour : )
08:01:33 yjacolin: see you, have to go : )
08:01:43 TylerM: okay bye!
08:01:45 yjacolin: bye
08:19:59 epifanio: hi tyler
08:20:02 epifanio: hi TylerM
08:21:01 TylerM: hi epifanio
08:21:17 epifanio: yes i can try it, i already tried to extract data from the illustrator files, but i'm not familiar with it
08:21:49 epifanio: starting from the source files i can work to create a latex project
08:25:41 epifanio: TylerM: can you point me to where the source files are stored ?
08:30:53 epifanio: i have the illustrator source ( in it i can see : jpeg files : Cover Background Final ( Letter ) Back Background Final ( Letter ) ) ... uluky opening it on a mac i lost fonts and i'm not able to see the second page, maybe it's a my problem beacouse i don't know how to use it
08:31:55 epifanio: thise for the brochure, while other material i have are all in pdf, except for the logos file, all in svg
08:35:42 TylerM: okay, i will have to check again later and see what I can get
08:36:13 TylerM: I do have the fonts ( .ttf ) needed for the brochures, but unfortunately they are not 'open' :P
08:37:31 TylerM: yjacolin and I were discussing the Journal though : )
08:37:56 TylerM: epifanio: If you are interested we could use your help with some latex ideas I have for improving the journal look and feel.
08:38:38 epifanio: ok ;- )
08:38:54 TylerM: oh, i meant to ask how things went at gfoss meeting!
08:40:59 TylerM: we have source files for producing this layout: http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/journal/tools/fsm_starter_kit/issue_00/tex_stuff/FSM_issue_00.pdf
08:41:04 TylerM: thanks to Free Software Magazine : )
08:41:51 epifanio: well! we as "gfoss" gived sponsorship to a barcamp "materacamp", exactly these the site : http://www.materacamp.com/
08:41:53 sigq: Title: MateraCamp - Matera Barcamp ( at www.materacamp.com )
08:43:04 epifanio: the good news ... new iscritions at gfoss .. and more important the Basilicata university ( environmental engineering ) will adopt foss sw in the gis lab course
08:44:52 TylerM: Can you send me information about that decision at Basilicata??
08:45:09 TylerM: I could really use it for a proposal I'm writing
08:46:56 epifanio: i had a free seminary at B. univ. , their analyses are focoused on idrology ... during the seminary i helped the theachers to know how to port the most important gis operation from arc-xxx to grass and qgis
08:47:40 epifanio: especially how to extract bacins and how to work with grass raster tools like r.mapcalc and othe more speciphics idrolgy's tools
08:49:16 epifanio: grass is able to extract bacins on the same computer ( and same dtm files ( 700mb ) )where arcgis get a crash ... it has convinced them
08:49:30 TylerM: wow - good story
08:51:35 epifanio: as we well known ... foss gis is freely distributable so teachers will not crack any sw for its students ;- )
11:07:58 wildintellect: anyone know of free tools for post processing RINEX files
11:15:42 wildintellect: wait one step back, how to convert Trimble SSF files into csv, shp or other more usable format
11:15:58 steko_: wildintellect: check out gpsbabel
16:07:21 TylerM: wildintellect: you figure out your gps data question?
16:07:31 TylerM: someone on the foss-gps list might know too
16:24:23 wildintellect: TylerM, gave up on that line and got lucky terrasync on the PocketPC can export to shp
16:26:08 wildintellect: my review is still the same, Trimble are a pain in the ... and uneccessary except for precision ag, construction and few other jobs that need centimeter gps accuracy
20:11:52 darkblue_b_: wildintellect: here?
20:12:52 darkblue_b_: ok, sending email
