06:46:03 spatialguru: haven't been some changes to LDAP in the last couple days have there?
06:46:23 spatialguru: I'm troublingshooting LDAP auth based login for the journal mgt. system..
06:46:41 spatialguru: and i'm 90% sure it's a problem with my upgrade, but thought I better asked about ldap just in case : )
06:52:14 : * mauricio_ is away: Gone away for now
07:18:41 spatialguru: ping hobu frankw - any LDAP changes over past 3 days?
07:21:13 jasonbirch: Anyone else having problems reaching the main osgeo server or trac?
07:23:40 spatialguru: jasonbirch: trying
07:24:05 spatialguru: i can't either
07:24:57 jasonbirch: Looks like it was up for a minute ( loaded a couple pages, but then stalled on external files: images, css )
07:26:39 spatialguru: hobu: you working on something?
07:28:32 spatialguru: i think i see some bots about .. but i assume that's normal
07:30:32 spatialguru: restarting httpd
07:30:38 spatialguru: my only fix ; )
07:31:25 spatialguru: jasonbirch: site loads fast now : )
07:31:29 spatialguru: get it while it's hot!
07:32:03 jasonbirch: spatialguru: limited time offer? : )
07:34:43 : * mauricio_ is back.
07:37:30 spatialguru: jasonbirch: perhaps :S
07:51:00 spatialguru: hi frankw
07:51:46 spatialguru: boy, i'd like to shove some of these web bots down the drain :P
07:52:03 spatialguru: 4+ at once hitting our site
07:54:23 FrankW: Ah, you tracked down some of our traffic?
07:54:26 spatialguru: wow 6 now
07:54:29 FrankW: Are they obeying the robots.txt?
07:54:36 FrankW: How did you analyse this?
07:54:38 spatialguru: I'm not sure how that works
07:54:52 spatialguru: I'm tailing the access_log, greping for 'bot'
07:55:09 FrankW: We do want bots to index parts of our site.
07:55:17 spatialguru: googlebot, msnbot, yahoo slurp, snapbot, speedy spirder.. .guh
07:55:24 spatialguru: yeah, catch 22 eh?
07:55:57 FrankW: Normal page requests from bots should not be a problem.
07:56:12 FrankW: The danger ( IMHO ) is if they ask for expensive pages - things like big changesets in trac for instance.
07:56:14 spatialguru: yeah hopfully its hitting caches
07:56:38 FrankW: so, for instance, http://trac.osgeo.org/robots.txt masks out substantial areas of Trac queries.
07:56:55 spatialguru: seems like normal drupal and OCS requests at the moment
07:57:00 spatialguru: and maillist
07:57:16 FrankW: Anything that looks particularly expensive?
07:57:33 spatialguru: i don't think so
07:58:00 FrankW: There are also a lot of access_log files so if you are only looking at the default one that isn't a very broad picture of activity.
07:58:23 spatialguru: ah right okay
07:58:56 FrankW: It is a pretty steady drum beat of activity.
08:00:20 spatialguru: msnbot can't seem to get enough ; ) it's doing the most at the moment
08:01:59 FrankW: If you look at http://trac.osgeo.org/server-status there is no indication that the drupal or mail archive requests are taking long to process.
08:02:00 sigq: Title: Apache Status ( at trac.osgeo.org )
08:04:05 spatialguru: CPU column tells processing time?
08:05:07 spatialguru: heh - awstats says we've got 96 different bots this month alone
08:06:11 spatialguru: google, msn, yahoo = 9, 10, 3 GB bandwidth respectively
08:06:39 FrankW: spatialguru: any clue back on peer1 ticket submission?
08:08:17 spatialguru: frankw: haven't heard back yet
08:08:20 spatialguru: can try phoning today
08:13:33 FrankW: spatialguru: that would be appreciated. It's not good for us to be in a position where we can't submit tickets to peer1.
08:14:02 spatialguru: yeah.. can't say i ever used it.. so I'm a bit lost as to what happened
08:16:10 spatialguru: nice, 70% of our bandwidth looks like bot traffic.. beautiful
08:18:52 FrankW: Is that awstats aggregated information?
08:19:17 FrankW: It would be interesting to skim the bot traffic to see if it is reading large objects it ought not, or pulling from unexpected areas of the web site.
08:19:42 FrankW: But, generally I think it is to be expected that a substantial portion of our traffic is bots.
08:23:32 spatialguru: yeah as long as we aren't paying for their bandwidth : )
08:24:18 spatialguru: does 25GB+ in less than a month assume a few large files are getting downloaded? hmm
08:24:40 spatialguru: anyway, I'm not sure if I can find the large ones.. not from within awstats specifically for bots at least
08:24:57 spatialguru: at the moment i'm trying to get OJS up and running - logins fail after upgrade
08:25:17 spatialguru: but only logins that use LDAP..
08:25:32 spatialguru: so I'm guessing their ldap plugin changed
08:26:02 FrankW: 25GB+ traffic does not necessarily indicate large files. Good luck with OJS.

18:26:14 mleslie: Poor jody is almost asleep at his desk today : )
18:30:14 rgould: mleslie: get him some red bull on my behalf : )
18:57:43 mleslie: rgould: will do. When caffeine fails, add taurine : )
