09:01:51 : <_rash7> anybody know ossimplanet
09:02:19 : * crschmidt guesses the people in #ossimplanet probably do
09:17:36 hobu: ping wildintellect
09:39:41 TylerM_osgeo: osgeo1 dying :(
09:39:46 TylerM_osgeo: load average: 23.40, 23.61, 20.36
09:39:58 TylerM_osgeo: fitting day for me pricing out new machines ; )
09:40:02 EvenR: I was just about asking what's going on with svn, pipermail, etc...
09:41:27 TylerM_osgeo: things frozen for you too evenr ?
09:41:35 EvenR: yes everything
09:41:55 TylerM_osgeo: crschmidt / hobu : recommend anything? otherwise I'll restart httpd I guess
09:42:38 : * TylerM_osgeo reaches for the flashing red button : )
09:43:58 TylerM_osgeo: beep
09:44:12 TylerM_osgeo: let's see what happens
09:45:56 TylerM_osgeo: better yet EvenR ?
09:46:40 EvenR: TylerM_osgeo: yes, things seem back to normal state. thanks
09:47:12 TylerM_osgeo: great
09:47:48 crschmidt: TylerM_osgeo: generally speaking, when load is high, restart apache : )
09:48:01 TylerM_osgeo: whew : )
09:48:19 TylerM_osgeo: I just posted a revised server quote to SAC list for anyone who is interested...
09:53:38 wildintellect: hobu, pong
10:04:45 CGI851: if i made a webmap to display a color change for segments along a route, can i get the client to do that work? Our consultant made a process that creates features every minute and then displays them. this seems rediculous to me
10:05:06 CGI851: is there a map example of changing route segments color on the fly?
10:07:49 CGI851: shouldnt that occur at the client>?
10:08:09 CGI851: i dont even need to know how to do it, I just need to know that the theory is correct.
10:12:10 wildintellect: I think I've seen mapfish allow recoloring on the fly - technically it could be done with Openlayers too for vector layers
10:23:39 CGI851: so can i specify only a section of a vector layer for color change? like from measure 4 to 5 or from lat/long to lat/long? The question is, do I need to create a new feature just to represent that data?
10:24:28 wildintellect: you can use the attribute data of the segments for color
10:25:00 wildintellect: so a line of value 4 is red and value 5 is pink etc
10:25:45 wildintellect: but yes the style would be applied per feature
10:40:30 CGI851: if i had a feature already segmented with a segmentID column, could I set the default style to transparent, then set symbology by segment ID?
10:41:05 CGI851: or should i just call a process to send GML or KML and render that on the fly?
10:42:07 wildintellect: should be able to, gml, kml, geojson those would all work
10:42:30 wildintellect: for client side rendering with OpenLayers
10:42:52 CGI851: so i would need simplified segements so i dont send too many vertices. these can cover miles
10:43:36 CGI851: ok i will try anbd convice the web guys to at least consider standards: uphill battle, everyone wants to throw money and time at a problem......
10:43:52 CGI851: more server, thicker clients, blah blah
10:44:11 CGI851: thanks

14:27:23 TylerM: this Zen theme stuff?
14:27:25 : <_wolf_> scratch
14:27:39 : <_wolf_> I'll built it from scratch
14:27:53 : <_wolf_> using the php theme engine
14:28:28 : <_wolf_> I'll need to htmlize the content pages too
14:28:58 : <_wolf_> can you ask for a new version which contains some different boxes on the right?
14:52:12 TylerM: _wolf_: what did you have in mind for those?
14:55:19 : * jmckenna hilarious, because i used "ECW" in my last tweet, some twitter guy named 'wrestlingworld' retweeted my ecw comment. lol!
14:55:41 : * jmckenna i have sure 'wrestled' with ecw support

15:06:17 TylerM: _wolf_: ok, but your just looking for some basic ideas for the block frames right?

18:09:06 hobu: wildintellect: pong ping. I will send an email
18:27:35 wildint: hobu, I'm here
19:47:33 gpascucci: hello
19:51:34 crschmidt: hello
19:52:56 gpascucci: hey crschmidt
19:53:00 gpascucci: how are you doin tonight?
19:54:35 crschmidt: Not terrible.
19:54:42 crschmidt: Just working on fixing up the "Edit" functionality in http://haiticrisismap.org/?zoom=10&lat=18.53776&lon=-72.42487&layers=osm&editlayers=83
19:54:43 sigq: Title: Haiti Crisis Map ( at haiticrisismap.org )
19:55:11 crschmidt: that's an example overlay I created outlining the coverage of the source imagery for the RIT/World Bank data.
19:57:51 gpascucci: slick
20:00:01 gpascucci: what is the deal with the yellow overlay
20:00:28 gpascucci: ah, i see the world bank
20:04:03 gpascucci: do you have a few moments to help out someone ew to this game?
20:04:24 crschmidt: In general: Don't ask to ask; just ask.
20:04:40 gpascucci: k
20:05:01 gpascucci: are you familiar with postgis ad map server
20:05:14 crschmidt: Generally.
20:06:32 gpascucci: i'm working on personal project where I want to integrate a fictitious map and have a user browse it as if it were a google maps type interface
20:06:41 crschmidt: Yep.
20:06:50 crschmidt: http://tilecache.org/demos/mario.html
20:06:51 sigq: Title: TileCache: Mario ( at tilecache.org )
20:07:10 gpascucci: haha
20:07:12 gpascucci: nice
20:07:21 gpascucci: YES!
20:07:43 gpascucci: how do I create a geotiff from a image of my world
20:08:26 crschmidt: gpascucci: Generally speaking, you don't need a geotiff.
20:08:44 crschmidt: gpascucci: you just have a tiff, and treat your coordinate space as '0,0,image_x_size,image_y_size'
20:09:00 crschmidt: map.addLayer( new OpenLayers.Layer.WMS( "World 1-4", ["http://tile1.labs.metacarta.com/wms-c/Example.py", "http://tile2.labs.metacarta.com/wms-c/Example.py"], {'layers':'mario-1-4'}, {maxResolution:16, maxExtent: new OpenLayers.Bounds( 0,0,2560,224 )} ) );
20:09:56 gpascucci: so the image map itself is a layer in postgis
20:10:20 gpascucci: what is the deal with the python code
20:10:37 crschmidt: Python code? Oh, that's just a replacement for MapSErver, in this case.
20:10:39 crschmidt: Ignore that.
20:12:41 gpascucci: brb
20:27:55 gpascucci: is that command a postgis stored procedure
20:27:58 gpascucci: >??
20:32:19 crschmidt: No.
20:36:09 gpascucci: can you add mulple maps to one layer in order too keep file sizes down?
20:36:31 gpascucci: and is there a tutorial available to re-create the mario world map concept?
20:36:50 crschmidt: Sure, and no.
20:37:38 gpascucci: so you could do a addlayer and specify 0,0,50,50 for the first map
20:38:15 gpascucci: then cdo an addlayer for a second map ad specity coordinates 51,51,100,100 for the other image..adding iit to the same layer
20:38:32 gpascucci: cdo-add
20:38:35 gpascucci: cdo=add
20:39:39 crschmidt: sure.
20:40:10 gpascucci: thanks srschmidt
20:40:31 gpascucci: like i said, this a new world..it took me one month just to find mapserver and postgis
20:40:32 gpascucci: :D
20:43:54 gpascucci: Am i going down the right path choosing openlayers, mapserver and postgis with a postgres db for world info for my tools?
20:44:21 crschmidt: I think that sounds reasonable.
20:49:43 gpascucci: what prompted you to make the mario world map?
21:13:46 gpascucci: are the photos after the earthquake for the haiti map
