01:08:00 timlinux: morning all
01:10:06 jef: timlinux: hi tim. I just accidently packaged 1.0.2 for osgeo4w. that should have been 1.0.1. when do we release 1.0.2?
01:14:12 timlinux: hi jef
01:14:25 timlinux: jef I was planning to wait a bit :-P
01:14:54 timlinux: I didn't even do an official announcement of 1.0.1 yet - I was waiting till we had the standalone win installer working
01:15:46 timlinux: that said 1.0 branch is pretty much ready for production use any time
02:32:49 ashjas: hi all
02:34:18 ashjas: can some one help me regarding ploting live point data on qgis?the point data coming to linux message queues?

05:14:20 ashjas: anybody here?
06:35:42 FiReSTaRT: ashjas yup.. wuddup
06:43:05 ashjas: hi Firestart
06:43:34 ashjas: can u help me regarding plotting live point data on qgis?the point data coming to linux message queues?
06:59:56 FiReSTaRT: unfortunately i can't.. it's been posted on the forums but i don't remember them coming up with a solution.. i could be wrong though
08:29:50 macho: greetings
08:57:29 cfarmer: does anyone have an svg version of the QGIS logo? not the simple yellow one, but the one with the arrow?

12:42:00 timlinux: hi all
12:42:35 jctull: hi timlinux
12:42:43 timlinux: hi jctull
12:42:49 jctull: what's news?
12:43:03 timlinux: qgis wise not much
12:43:14 timlinux: need to get the release checklists set up for 1.1
12:43:17 timlinux: and 1.2
12:43:24 timlinux: jef what happened in the end with 1.2?
12:43:39 timlinux: in osgeo4w
12:43:41 jctull: all that productivity from the hackfest sets one's expectations high : )
12:43:49 timlinux: jctull: heh
12:50:16 jef: timlinux: rebuilt and uploaded grass 6.4.0svn and qgis 1.0.1
12:50:39 timlinux: is grass 6.4 final released now?
12:51:14 jef: timlinux: no, hence the svn
12:51:25 timlinux: jef ok
12:51:56 timlinux: jef so I was thinking to put out a request for people to backport any fixes for 1.1 that have been made in trunk
12:52:10 timlinux: e.g. crs stuff you and martin fixed
12:54:41 jef: timlinux: already done
12:54:50 jef: r10398
12:54:58 timlinux: jef cool
12:57:35 : * timlinux starts msexpress 2008 download
13:10:21 macho: hi timlinux
13:10:37 timlinux: hiya
13:11:55 macho: any news in SA?
13:20:46 timlinux: macho: our dodgy soon to be next president was just declared not dodgy any more
13:20:54 timlinux: ie same old same old
13:23:12 timlinux: jef did you say there is no need to install the platform SDK anymore with 2008?
13:25:24 jef: timlinux: hm, I also have Microsoft SDKs/Windows/6.0a in my %LIB% path
13:26:03 timlinux: you mean outside of the msvc path?
13:26:27 timlinux: I'm going to update teh INSTALL.t2t docment for MSVC express while I do this
13:26:46 timlinux: replacing my old deps archive notes to rather use osgeo4w deps
13:27:29 : * timlinux is going to crash and leave msvc express downloading....36mb of 96mb downloaded so far....
13:27:36 timlinux: maybe it will be done tomorrow
13:27:40 timlinux: cheers all
13:27:42 jef: timlinux: yes. Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\vc\lib is the other.
13:28:08 timlinux: jef how do you mean?
13:28:18 timlinux: yes I must get the platform sdk?
13:28:48 timlinux: ok will check with you tomorrow again...
13:30:14 jef: timlinux: I have only 2 entries in %LIB%
13:52:52 macho: i wonder if all this mess around windows is really worth it
13:54:00 macho: if people use windows there is ArcGIS already .. ; )
13:54:25 macho: on Mac and Linux there is no GIS except GRASS and QGIS ..
13:54:36 macho: ( and java based things )
13:55:34 : * macho has currently some problems with his M$ Windoof XP installation ..
13:55:41 : * macho wonders why people use Windows at all
13:56:03 simgislab: yes, I guess this is not about whether we have anything or not on Win, but more about _what_ we have
13:57:41 dassouki: i use windows
13:57:53 dassouki: cause TransCAD , RoadEng, don't run on linux
13:58:00 dassouki: Emme3 and cubeland included
13:58:07 dassouki: software worth around $50k
13:58:15 dassouki: that we tried miserably to run it on wine
13:58:19 dassouki: with no success
13:58:22 macho: dassouki: thats my problem too - no 3D CAD for linux .. the only reason i use windows
13:58:36 dassouki: well transcad is not a cad program
13:58:40 dassouki: it's a transportaton gis program
13:58:49 dassouki: that does lots of fancy transportation modeling
13:59:03 dassouki: however teh sentinel hardware block that it comes with doesn't seem to be playing buddy with wine
13:59:31 macho: thats a problem i also have with a hydraulik modelling software ..
13:59:40 macho: simple fortran running in a DOS window ..
14:00:23 macho: but the producer says 2hours to compile it for linux are too much effort because there is no demand for it on linux ..
14:00:32 macho: i'm the only one
14:00:36 dassouki: oooh
14:00:44 dassouki: well why don't u pay him for the 2 hours if it's that simple
14:00:48 dassouki: and buy him lunch too
14:00:54 macho: thats the dog biting in his own tail ..
14:01:05 macho: i suggested it to him ..
14:01:17 macho: he said .. no - too much effort for "nothing"
14:01:32 dassouki: sucks
14:01:38 macho: yep
14:01:45 dassouki: so u are a civil engineer ?
14:01:49 macho: i wonder when people will see that ..
14:01:51 macho: yes i am
14:01:59 dassouki: nice me 2
14:02:26 macho: where are you from?
14:02:35 macho: which area of civil engineering?
14:02:38 cfarmer: cgs_bob_: ping...
14:02:57 dassouki: transportation, road safety, transportation planning and forecasting
14:03:01 dassouki: and a bit of policy
14:03:10 macho: which country?
14:03:13 dassouki: canada
14:03:18 macho: ahhh i c
14:03:26 dassouki: u
14:03:27 macho: thats far away from austria ; )
14:03:38 dassouki: haha, i have a few friends fro maustria
14:03:41 dassouki: awesome stroudel
14:04:00 macho: hehehe correct
14:43:16 cgs_bob_: cfarmer: hey there...you ping me? : )
14:43:58 cfarmer: yes I did... are you still using manageR at all?
14:45:21 cgs_bob_: cfarmer: I'm still using it...but it has been a while. it will be important in my landslide hazard zone workflow
14:46:38 cfarmer: good to hear... ok, I just released a brand new version ( should be in my repo now ) which works with rpy2 and the latest version( s ) of R... I was wondering if you'd mind testing it out a bit more me?
14:48:02 cgs_bob_: cfarmer: I'll do that...after I got to a spring party : ) I'll give you how it goes tonight
14:48:38 cfarmer: cgs_bob_: Excellent, thanks! I've changed quite a few things, including the main interface, so I'd like to hear any feedback you might have... I really like the new setup ( obviously ), but I'd be interested in hearing if it works for you as well... I tried to make it at bit more R-like...
14:49:57 cgs_bob_: cfarmer: looking forward to it! I'll definitely give it a try tonight
14:50:25 cgs_bob_: anyways...I got to run now. I'm late to the party : )
14:51:39 cfarmer: cheers!
14:52:05 cgs_bob_: cfarmer: I should really get going. but I just tried to install it and got a "__init__( ) takes exactly 2 arguments ( 3 given )" error :(
14:52:26 cgs_bob_: I got to run...bye!
14:54:00 cfarmer: ok, thanks... bye!
14:58:56 cfarmer: cgs_bob_: I know you've left, but in case you're going back over the logs later, I recommend completely removing your old version of manageR first before trying to install the new version. I just tried installing it here myself, and all goes well. I was doing this on a computer with no previous version of manageR however...
15:18:40 simgislab: cfarmer: great job on new manageR, I'm gonna try it too
15:19:53 cfarmer: simgislab: ah great... let me know what you think... did it download for you properly?
15:19:56 simgislab: cfarmer: is it intentional, that both manageR and fTools are added to the bottom of the plugin manager list, not sorted like others?
15:20:09 simgislab: cfarmer: so far so good, rpy2 is missing though
15:21:48 cfarmer: ah yes, you'll need that: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=48422&package_id=277454 as for the sort order... I think it has something to do with the fact that I use different cases ( big T in fTools, big R in manageR )
15:21:50 sigq: Title: SourceForge.net: RPy ( R from Python ): Files ( at sourceforge.net )
15:23:06 simgislab: that explains it, i guess
15:25:43 simgislab: hmm, can't see anything under plugins after swithing it on
15:27:16 simgislab: cfarmer: this is what I got under 1.0, ImportError: No module named Numeric
15:28:15 simgislab: hmm, python-numpy is installed
15:29:21 jctull: I just tried to install manageR and got
15:29:22 jctull: Don't forget to cut your lights tonight from 8:30 to 9:30 local time.
15:29:27 jctull: hmm, wrong paste
15:29:53 jctull: The plugin is broken. Python said:
15:30:09 jctull: __init__( ) takes exactly 2 arguments ( 3 given )
15:30:14 cfarmer: simgislab: what os are you on?
15:30:34 cfarmer: jctull: you might have to remove your old version of manageR before installing the new one...
15:30:41 jctull: let's try that...
15:30:59 cfarmer: the only __init__ file only took 2 arguments, the new one takes 3...
15:31:54 jctull: that fixed that
15:32:25 cfarmer: exellente, now what? ;-p
15:32:42 jctull: Hey! The interface came up! : ) First time ever ; )
15:32:57 cfarmer: sweet!
15:33:00 jctull: hmm, ctrl-H did nothing
15:33:17 cfarmer: make sure the cursor on the the command line...
15:33:28 jctull: it was/is
15:33:56 cfarmer: nuts.. ok what about Ctrl+L?
15:34:10 jctull: nothing there either, OS X as I think you knew
15:34:54 cfarmer: oh right... hmm, maybe I have to do something special for OSX? so what is your equivalent to Ctrl?
15:35:03 jctull: Ctrl
15:35:05 jctull: ; )
15:35:31 jctull: Let me see if I can ferret out the ascii code ( who knows the terminal trick for this? )
15:38:09 cfarmer: jctull: I think I may have found the problem... on a mac, Crtl is considered a Qt::MetaModifier according to Qt... I think...
15:38:19 jctull: ok, thx
15:38:36 jctull: I tried other keys and combos, but no luck
15:40:22 cfarmer: I'll put up a new version in a few...
15:43:09 jctull: ok, I have 4 mins before I have to bug out
15:47:22 jctull: cfarmer: I'll have to check later. Great work!
15:47:26 cfarmer: jctull: ok, try downloading again, I just uploaded the new version...
15:47:36 jctull: ok
15:47:47 cfarmer: ah, ok... cheers, thanks for finding the first bug ;- )
15:48:51 jctull: cfarmer: yeah, later. It's not filtering up the repository chain yet. Cheers
15:49:59 cfarmer: ok, thanks again bye!
15:51:08 cfarmer: jctull: just so you know, when you do get a chance to test again, I haven't increased the version number of the newly uploaded version, so you won't notice it in the repo, but it *is* there...
15:54:58 cfarmer: simgislab: did you figure out the numpy issue? I'm not sure why you're getting a Numpy error? did you install rpy or rpy2?
18:59:08 jctull: simgislab: are you still around?
18:59:23 simgislab: still here, hi
18:59:53 jctull: I sent an email. Did you delete the manageR directory from your plugins folder?
19:00:17 simgislab: delete? older one you mean&
19:00:30 jctull: yes
19:00:55 simgislab: never tried manageR before
19:01:05 jctull: hmm, not it then...
19:01:40 simgislab: I'm wondering if this is related to the fact that I have both 1.0.1 and trunk installed via osgeo4w
19:01:43 jctull: oh, you don't have the numeric module installed
19:01:56 simgislab: ? I don't
19:02:12 simgislab: I thought I do
19:02:17 jctull: can you open a python session and type 'import Numeric'?
19:02:27 simgislab: 1 sec
19:02:45 simgislab: exceptions.ImportError: No module named Numeric
19:03:03 jctull: right, you need to install that. No easy_install method for that on either...
19:03:03 simgislab: but I installed python-numpy
19:03:18 simgislab: is it not it?
19:03:19 jctull: I know, I ran into the same a few weeks back.
19:03:33 simgislab: ah, let me try
19:03:38 jctull: They are separate, although it was my impression that numpy was meant to replace...
19:04:17 jctull: That might be something to check in with Carson tomorrow.
19:04:35 jctull: On would expect the older Numeric to not be a requirement, but it obviously is.
19:04:53 simgislab: yes, I'm gonna ask him tomorrow
19:04:59 simgislab: thanks for your help!
19:05:13 jctull: You could also try changing his code and replace 'import Numeric' with 'import numpy' and see if it works.
19:08:18 jctull: it's in QLayerConverter.py
19:08:35 simgislab: let me try import numpy in python session first
19:09:03 simgislab: this worked
19:09:09 jctull: I just tried and it does not work, so he must have a specific dependency on Numeric
19:10:02 simgislab: ok
19:10:24 simgislab: so this numeric, is it this one ?: http://people.csail.mit.edu/jrennie/python/numeric/
19:10:25 sigq: Title: Python Numeric ( at people.csail.mit.edu )
19:10:43 jctull: yep
19:10:58 jctull: I installed 24.2 from source on my OS X setup
19:11:41 simgislab: which python version you have?
19:11:45 jctull: 2.5
19:11:49 jctull: OS X
19:12:34 simgislab: 24.2 says it is for 2.4, is it ok?
19:12:43 jctull: it was working for me
19:13:03 jctull: I think that it has not been updated since 2.5 became available, so the website is old
19:15:00 simgislab: I guess I need to install them of osgeo4w python?
19:15:53 simgislab: even worth, it doesn't want to install at all
19:16:15 jctull: I know nothing about osgeo4w :(
19:20:35 simgislab: no problems, I'm sure we'll figure it out : )
19:40:26 jctull: simgislab: I'm having other problems if you see the user email list.
19:40:36 jctull: Carson will sort it out tomorrow I'm sure
19:40:46 jctull: 'night

21:54:07 arkygeek: timlinux: hi Tim :- )
21:56:00 arkygeek: timlinux: Do you remember when we set up the grass commands stuff, how it worked? it seems to be causing me some grief, and I'm not sure why...
21:59:37 arkygeek: macho: hi
